‘A Panel Member’s Perspective’

Are you 0 -10 years PQE and appear before regulatory panels, tribunals and committees? If so, this seminar may interest you!  ARDL is delighted to announce its second Junior ARDL seminar taking place on in London on Thursday 20th October 2016.

The seminar will provide you with ‘A Panel Member’s Perspective’ as to the ‘do’s and don’ts’ of appearing in front of disciplinary tribunals. Attendees will hear from experienced panel members and Chairs from across a range of disciplinary panels, both healthcare and non-healthcare. Topics will include: documentation (e.g. bundles, skeleton submissions), witnesses (fact and expert), the tribunal panel itself, closing submissions and what the committee look for.

Demand is expected to be high for this event so please register your interest as soon as possible.


Donald Brown is an experienced panel member and Chair for several healthcare regulators. His considerable experience includes being Head of the Directorate for Professional Standards and Counter Corruption for  one of the largest Police Forces in the UK.

Richard Davies undertakes a range of portfolio appointments, including Chair of Conduct and Competence Committee at Nursing and Midwifery Council; Chair of the Health Committee and Professional Conduct Committee Panels at General Osteopathic Council; Associate at General Pharmaceutical Council; Member and Group Chair for Boards of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors; Richard was also an MPTS tribunal member and Chair from 2006-2016

Jacqueline Devonish was admitted as a Solicitor in 1991. She has been a member of the Solicitors Discipline Tribunal since 2006 and is also an Assistant Coroner in Inner North London, South London and Suffolk. Jacqueline is also the Principal of JPD Law in London undertaking criminal prosecution work for DVSA, Legal Reviewer for CIPFA and Admissions Appeals Clerk.

Robert Slack has been a member of the Solicitors Discipline Tribunal since 2009. He is currently on the Lay Member Qualifications Committee, Bar Standards Board. Robert was previously a Council Member, screener and member of Fitness to Practise Committee, General Medical Council 62 (1999-2008); Chair of Professional Behaviour Committee(2006-2008) and Investigating Officer for Medical and Dental Undergraduate Fitness to Practise, Bristol University (2008- 2013); Examiner, Royal College of Surgeons; Consultant ENT Surgeon.

The seminar will be followed by a panel discussion and there will be plenty opportunity for questions from the audience. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion.

The seminar will be chaired by Catriona Watt, Chair of ARDL.
