The Role
The Bar Standards Board is undergoing a period of reform and reorganisation through our “Reform Programme”. One of the aims of the programme is to deliver our gatekeeping, supervision and enforcement functions quickly, efficiently and responsively and to implement the recommendations that arise from a review of our enforcement functions by Fieldfisher LLP.
The Project Lawyer will be a member of a project team and will support the Enforcement Regulations Project, the aim of which is to review the Enforcement Regulations contained in Parts 5A to 5D of the BSB Handbook to ensure that they provide a robust framework for fair, fast and efficient decision making in the public interest, in accordance with the project plan. This is an exciting opportunity for somebody to get involved in providing dedicated support to the re-draft of our enforcement rules.
The role will involve undertaking research, gathering and analysis evidence, considering proposals for change, drafting key documents, contributing to the redraft of our regulations and assisting with the assessment of whether the new rules and the processes they underpin are fair.
Key skills and experience required to undertake the role includes:
- A solicitor or barrister (eligible to hold a practising certificate in the UK or a comparable jurisdiction)
- Demonstrable knowledge of public law and principles of fair decision-making.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of professional regulation and associated enforcement processes.
- Strong legal research skills and analysis.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships, including at a senior level.
- Excellent drafting skills, self-motivated and proactive.
