On Tuesday 24th September, ARDL and FreeBar will host a joint online event discussing ‘Acceptance without Exception’ inclusion and support for LGBT+ people working within the law.
FreeBar is a network aiming to foster inclusion and support for LGBT+ people working as and with barristers through:
- Connecting LGBT+ people and allies to provide a forum of mutual support.
- Raising awareness of LGBT+ equality and diversity issues specific to the Bar.
- Sharing best practices on workplace inclusion.
Speaking for FreeBar, Brie Stevens-Hoare KC is recommended as a leading silk in the latest editions of The Legal 500 and Chambers UK. In recent years she won Barrister of the Year at the Modern Law Awards and Chambers UK’s Real Estate Silk of the Year Award.
To provide an insight from the perspective of the regulators, Poornima Karunacadacharan, from the Bar Standards Board, will join the panel; as will Sian Hughes from the Solicitors Regulatory Authority.
Melinka Berridge, Partner and Head of Department at Kingsley Napley, is an experienced regulatory and criminal lawyer, ranked as a ‘Leading Individual’ in chambers directories. She is also a strong advocate for LGBT+ rights and will provide an insight from private practice.
The discussion will be chaired by former ARDL-Chairman Paul Ozin KC
