Description: Join Junior ARDL Scotland for an in-person seminar exploring the opportunities, risks and regulatory implications of artificial intelligence in legal practice and regulatory proceedings. The session is aimed at junior members of ARDL who are 0–10 years PQE, including lawyers in private practice, in-house roles and at the Bar, and will provide practical insight into how AI can be used safely and responsibly in regulatory and disciplinary work.
The seminar will consider the pitfalls and protections junior lawyers should be aware of when using AI, including how inappropriate use may give rise to professional or regulatory concerns. Discussion will include recent developments and examples of AI-related issues in legal practice, including cases where AI-generated material has led to inaccurate submissions or the court being misled. There will be time for a Q&A.
Topics will include
- Practical guidance for junior lawyers on using AI safely and responsibly in regulatory and disciplinary practice.
- The potential regulatory consequences of misuse of AI, including accuracy, verification, confidentiality and professional judgment.
- Recent case law and commentary concerning AI-generated material, AI hallucinations and misleading submissions.
- The impact of AI on regulatory hearings, including the use of AI by self-representing registrants.
- Practical protections, safeguards and good habits for lawyers working with AI tools.
