About the role:

A Presentation Lawyer will conduct a substantial caseload including complex matters of the Council’s FTP presentation cases and ensure cases are presented to one of the GDC’s Practice Committees in a timely and cost -effective manner.

Case Recording and Management

  • To draft detailed case plans for each case allocated, estimating the resources and time required to prepare for a hearing in accordance with arrangements made by the Head of In-house Legal Prosecutions Team (ILPS)
  • Conducting a substantial caseload including complex matters as required by the Head of ILPS in a timely and cost effective manner in accordance with agreed case plans
  • Deal with all case related correspondence, telephone calls and emails, ensuring appropriate recording of relevant information within the Team’s case management system (CRM Dynamics) for case management and audit purposes
  • Ensure that accurate time recording is maintained for all activities for those case which you have conduct.
  • Liaise with Hearings at the earliest opportunity and then on a regular basis to ensure that cases are scheduled to maximise hearings capacity.
  • Ensure that case files are conducted in the Team’s case management system (CRM Dynamics) and maintained and archived appropriately.

Case Preparation

  • Liaise with the defence side to ensure the smooth running of each case in accordance with case management directions issued by the Hearings Team or under guidance from the Head of ILPS
  • Determine the evidence required and obtain that evidence (witness statements and expert evidence as appropriate)
  • Ensure that vulnerable witnesses are briefed and supported by the Witness Support Officer and to co-ordinate witness attendance at hearings (where required)
  • Ensure that case bundles are prepared and arrangements are made for the Hearing. Liaising with Hearings Team to ensure effective case management and compliance with case management directions and best use of hearing time
  • select and brief suitable Counsel from the agreed list to present the Council’s prosecution case; to include attending Conferences with Counsel and expert witness (as required)


  • Supervise and direct the work of more junior team members
  • Encourage and support more junior team members to develop their knowledge and skills

About you:

  • A qualified and practising solicitor, barrister, ILEX qualified or foreign qualified equivalent.
  • Extensive knowledge of the legal framework relating to healthcare regulation
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of the principles and procedures of criminal or civil litigation or professional regulatory law
  • Ability to handle a substantial caseload of complex matters and manage competing priorities effectively
  • The ability to draft clear, concise documents.
  • Strong legal analytical skills and judgement, with the ability to analyse complex issues and present legally sound and focused advice.
  • An effective team member with the ability to delegate work where appropriate to do so and to supervise and develop more junior team members
  • Demonstrable awareness of the principles of customer service and cost effectiveness
  • Demonstrable commitment to relevant continuous professional development and to sharing knowledge and experience with colleagues.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with GDC’s policies and statutory obligations with regard to data protection, equalities and diversity, health and safety, and employment
