We’re looking to recruit a lawyer as our Head of Case Management, to join the Legal Directorate and play an active role in leading and managing the Case Management team, ensuring all Anti-Doping Rule violation (ADRV) matters are progressed expeditiously and effectively in line with relevant rules.

Job purpose
You will lead and manage the Case Management team, ensuring all ADRV matters are progressed expeditiously and effectively. You will lead the prosecution of individual ADRV cases, acting as an advocate on behalf of UKAD before the National Anti-Doping Panel and other tribunals.
You will be responsible for the line management and development of the Case Management Team and the operational management of UKAD’s case load.
Key result areas include
- Leading on the prosecution of alleged ADRVs and undertaking written and oral advocacy before the National Anti-Doping Panel (and other tribunals where applicable, including the Court of Arbitration for Sport)
- Operational oversight and management UKAD’s ADRV caseload
- Advising internal stakeholders on investigations and evidence gathering for potential ADRVs
- Recruiting, leading and mentoring Case Management team members, fostering a culture of professional development and high performance
- Managing relationships with National Governing Bodies of sport (NGBs) and advising on their participation in ADRV proceedings
- Advising NGBs in respect of ADRV prosecutions conducted by them under delegation, including reviewing submissions and evidence and attending hearings as an observer
- Leading on and managing the provision of contractual advice to UKAD and all other non-contentious legal advice to UKAD, including in relation to information sharing, data protection and freedom of information matters
- Instructing and managing UKAD’s relationship with external counsel
- Reviewing UK and NGB anti-doping rules on an on-going basis to ensure compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code, National Anti-Doping Policy and other standards and procedures
- Implementing and managing the organisation’s quality and risk management system within the Case Management team
- Preparing and reviewing independent review requests and conducting case to answer assessments on potential ADRVs
Person specification
Qualifications/experience/knowledge
- Solicitor or barrister with current practising certificate and a minimum of five years’ post-qualification experience
- Substantial experience of conducting advocacy before tribunals and/or courts
- Substantial experience of managing a large contentious caseload in a leadership or supervisory role
- Substantial experience of working with anti-doping rules and regulations, or similar sports or professional regulations
- Substantial experience of working with investigations professionals and providing advice on evidence pursuant to anti-doping rules, similar sports or professional regulations, or criminal law.
- Demonstrated success in managing and developing a team of legal professionals, including leadership in performance management
- Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
- Passion for clean sport and a wider knowledge of sport
